Universal Design is a concept in which homes and businesses are built with the ability to meet all levels of ability and disability and features in the environment are designed to be used by and accessible to everyone. Elements of Universal Design blend seamlessly within the environment and are typically aesthetically pleasing and not identified as “medical” looking. Examples of Universal Design are zero threshold entrances, lever door handles on doorways and faucets, open floor plans, and pull out shelving.
